How to Choose the Right Hairstyle for your Face
Shape
Many people do not know where to start when deciding on a new
hairstyle.
This article is a general guide to what you should consider
taking into account the shape of your face, your facial features and the type and condition of your
hair. There are five main face shapes:
|
Oval
With an oval shaped face you can wear
just about any hairstyle , long or short. The oval face is well balanced and
in proportion and you should avoid styles which cover up this great asset.
Try styles with layers near your cheekbones,
lips or chin or a style which is swept back from your
face.

Long or
Rectangular
A hairstyle which balances out the length of
your face will work best. A short or medium style with fullness at the sides will add width
and layered styles also work well to add softness to the straight lines of your face. Try to
avoid styles with too much length or height as these will make your face appear much
longer.

Round
A round face shape requires a
style which will slim the face. A hair style with fullness and height at the crown will give the
impression of a narrower face. Wispy fringe, off centre partings and a hair style
longer than chin length or swept back from the face will help to elongate this facial
shape.

Square
A square face shape usually
has a strong jaw line and your hairstyle should soften this feature.
Short to medium styles work
well and waves, curls or wispy cuts will balance out the straight features of this face
shape. Side partings and fullness to the crown also gives the illusion of
length.

Heart
A heart shaped face can
sometimes appear pointed so a style which is chin length or longer will balance out the narrow jaw
line. Side partings and swept forward layers around the upper face work well as does a well cut bob
to give fullness and balance. Heart shaped faces also suit a soft, curly
style.
